IMPORTANCE OF PREP DESIGN & ADVANCED ADHESION FOR PARTIAL COVERAGE CERAMICS

Grant CD

While Advanced Adhesive techniques are certainly important for the retention of “Non-Retentive” partial coverage ceramics, there are many more benefits as a result of ideal bonding & minimally invasive prep design. Dr. Steve Schiffenhaus will review techniques & advantages of non-retentive partial coverage prep design & advanced adhesion ranging from retention of ceramics, improved post-operative pulpal outcomes, decreased gap formation & microleakage, biomechanic stabilization, & increased fracture resistance.

OBJECTIVES: At the completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the impact of preparation design on ceramic, adhesive, & biologic success

  • Understand compressive & tensile forces & their impacts on the tooth & ceramics

  • Learn how bonding increases the strength of glass ceramics

  • Understand how adhesion can biomechanically stablized weakened and/or cracked teeth

  • Learn which bonding methods are best for partial coverage ceramics

  • Understand the differences between simplified & mutli-bottle adhesive systems & which ones are best for strength & durability

  • Learn about the negative impact both mechanically & biologically of gaps under composite & resin cement & how to prevent them

  • Understand the importance of hydrophobically sealing partial coverage ceramics with adhesive & resin composite

  • Learn the adhesive approach to selective caries removal
