BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND:
A PROSTHETICALLY-DRIVEN FRAMEWORK FOR COMPLEX REHABILITATION OF TEETH AND IMPLANTS

LECTURE

Complex rehabilitation begins long before the first preparation — it begins with a clear picture of the final result. This lecture presents a prosthetically-driven framework for planning and restoring complex cases across both natural teeth and implants, working backward from the ideal outcome to every clinical decision that precedes it. Beginning with the end in mind, we examine when to preserve versus replace compromised teeth, how prosthetic volume and interocclusal space govern implant position and vertical dimension, and how the final restorative goal dictates material and technique selection. Execution is treated as a decision rather than a default: attendees will see cases restored adhesively and cases where conventional cementation is the more predictable choice, with the evidence that guides each. The framework is demonstrated through fully documented cases spanning the spectrum of complexity—from minimally invasive anterior esthetics to full-mouth rehabilitation of a worn dentition and implant-supported restoration.

OBJECTIVES: At the completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Apply an ideal-outcome-driven method to diagnose and sequence complex cases involving natural teeth and implants.

  • Use prosthetic volume and inter-occlusal space to drive implant and vertical dimension decisions.

  • Select the restorative material, technique, and cementation protocol best matched to each clinical situation.
